GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under immediate supervision, to perform skilled work in the construction and maintenance of street and alley systems to include, earth work preparation in the right-of-way, construction of rigid (portland concrete), flexible (asphaltic) base, and gravel surfaces as well as the operation and preventive maintenance care of heavy construction, maintenance equipment, and machinery. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: The Street Maintenance Technician (SMT) Trainee, I, II, and III exercise no supervision. The Street Maintenance Technician (SMT) IV may exercise technical and functional supervision over lower-level staff. IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Street Maintenance Technician Trainee, I, II, III, IV Operate dump trucks that have the capacity to haul up to 18 tons of materials. Perform minor maintenance and servicing on equipment operated. Perform manual work as required. May operate mechanical sweeper. Operate various compaction rollers up to 10 tons.
