Job description

The Equipment Operator position involves the operation of heavy equipment and the inspection of material arriving at the facility. Key Responsibilities: Adhere to and enforce health and safety policies and procedures, use proper personal protective equipment and other safety equipment. Ensures compliance with WCB safety procedures. Operate heavy equipment regularly including: Landfill Compactor. Dozer. Excavator. Rock Truck. Assess incoming material for disposal to determine the contamination rates, determine when contamination levels are exceeded and communicate accordingly. Interact with the customers (public and contract haulers) delivering material, other staff, service providers, etc. in a courteous and professional manner. Shape landfill cells and add daily cover according to sequencing plans and as directed. Perform inspection and maintenance checks of equipment daily. Grease/lubricate equipment, check and add fluids to equipment daily. Steer, guide and or drive the above listed equipment at the assigned site, if the equipment is used at the particular site(s) using steering wheel, shifters, levers, buttons and pedals.
