Job Title Captain - Near Coastal Agency: Texas A&M University at Galveston Department: MESSO: Proposed Minimum Salary: $28.85 hourly Job Location: Galveston, Texas Job Type: Staff Job Description: A Glimpse of the Job: The Captain - Near Coastal is responsible for the safe navigation and operation of the University vessels in near coastal waters (up to 200 miles offshore) serving as vessel master; supervises crew and vessel operators and trains them on safe operation practices and safe maneuvering of vessels through various situations. Essential Duties/Tasks: Operational Leadership - Serves as Vessel Master and navigates vessels safely and skillfully. Provides operational leadership for their directed area of responsibility and onboard the vessel of which they are the master. Maintains a positive working environment and relationships with other colleagues and units on campus. Responsible for the fiduciary oversight of budgets and operations in their area of responsibility in accordance with published processes, rules, policies and law.
