Department Summary The Department of English and Comparative Literature at San José State University is seeking candidates for a pool of qualified, prospective instructors. We are most interested in hiring experienced instructors to teach courses in the First-Year Writing Program. Occasionally, we also have need of expertise in English Education, including student teacher supervision, or in Professional and Technical Writing, including in the areas of business writing, social media, and other areas of career writing. The number and variety of positions hired from this pool will vary from semester to semester, contingent upon student enrollment figures and funding Brief Description of Duties: - Teach one or more sections of first-year composition (or professional/technical communication, teacher supervision, etc.). - (First-year writing instructors will) participate in a minimum of one department professional development workshop per semester. - Participate in program assessment every semester and ongoing programmatic research as appropriate. - Demonstrate awareness of and experience in teaching a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnic...
