JOB SUMMARY: Provides support, encouragement, and education for breastfeeding Mothers and infants in antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Performs specialized lactation assessment and charts appropriately to findings. Educates staff members with up-to-date evidence-based education regarding infant feedings, lactation, formula, assistive devices…etc. Notifies appropriate care providers on abnormal assessments and concerns regarding the mother and infant and can make appropriate suggestions to help maintain safety and a good outcome. The lactation specialist is responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fully collaborative with the patient, patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team.
