Laboratory Assistant III

Job description

Responsible for the collection of blood specimens ensuring patient safety and consistency with age-specific considerations for all patients, neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics as well as employees. Performs venous, capillary and infant heel sticks to ensure specimen integrity. Follows proper labeling protocols for specimen tubes/containers. Follows order of draw/collection. Performs clerical functions, processing duties, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens and training of students and employees. Performs phlebotomist duties as assigned. Must be knowledgeable of emergency procedures. Inputs and retrieves data from laboratory /hospital computer system. Will supervise or lead lab assistant I and II positions, as requested. Can perform CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested. Completes prioritization, receipt, registration and distribution of specimens. Has responsibility for sendout/reference lab shipping, tracking and billing. Will assist with processing of anatomic pathology specimens including preparation of microscopic tissue slides, staining and specimen management, as requested.
