Description The Newcomb Department of Music in the School of Liberal Arts at Tulane University is seeking an assistant professor of music (tenure-track) with expertise in the history and practice of Black American music. We wish to hire a candidate with commitment to contributing to the body of research on music associated with Black American culture, including, but not limited to, Blues, Gospel, Jazz, R 'n’ B, Soul, Funk and/or Hip-Hop, as well as the music of the broader African diaspora. The position has a start date of July 1, 2026. We expect that competitive candidates will have experience and demonstrated success in classroom teaching at the college or university level, as well as promising research and/or creative output in their field. We are especially interested in recruiting a colleague who can contribute to this area of excellence within the university while fostering strong connections with musical communities and scenes in New Orleans. Mentorship and advising of undergraduate and graduate (Master’s) students are fundamental to this position.
