Description About the Bard Microcollege: Offering a new model for inclusive higher education, the Bard Microcollege brings high-quality, tuition-free, liberal arts instruction to communities often excluded from the university experience. The pilot Bard Microcollege launched in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 2016 and serves women, inclusive of trans and nonbinary folks, whose education has been interrupted by pregnancy, parenting, or systemic barriers. Bard’s partner for the Microcollege is a community-based educational organization called The Care Center, where students are enrolled full-time while working toward their associate degrees. Students take liberal arts coursework representative of the four academic divisions of the college—The Arts; Languages and Literature; Social Studies; and Science, Mathematics, and Computing.
