Overview Utah State University students are invited to apply for summer internship opportunities with the U.S. Forest Service at the Ferron Ranger District. Two internship roles are available: Range Aid and Biological Aid. Range Aid Job Description: This job will be supporting the range and ecological resource areas in the monitoring of vegetation and soils conditions on the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This job would also support in up keep of rangeland improvements on the forest as well. Biological Aid Job Description: This job will be supporting the Wildlife Staff in the monitoring of Northern Goshawk, Sage Grouse and vegetation on the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This job would also support other forest disciplines with improvements on the forest as well. Responsibilities: As a Range Aid, duties may include the following: - Monitoring of shrubs and herbaceous vegetation. - Driving 4x4 trucks and ATV's in adverse conditions. - Monitoring effects of livestock grazing. - Using GPS equipment to log weed locations. - Weed removal using chemical and hand tools using backpack weed sprayers. - Obtain a pesticide applicator permit. - Building fence, fixing water troughs and pipelines....
