Fuel Accountant Job Summary: Southern Fuel Accounting supports fuel accounting for Southern Company and affiliates (APC, GPC, MPC, SNC, and SPC). This position will perform accounting and analytical tasks in support of the company’s fleet of coal and oil power plants. Primary Job Responsibilities: - Perform monthly financial closing processes for fuel. This includes preparing journal entries, provide supporting calculations, variance analysis and monthly reconciliations. - Prepare, process and resolve monthly billing for fuel related purchases. - Provide key support and system testing for fuel management systems (ComTrac). - Perform account reconciliations. - Provide support for internal and external audits. - Perform Financial Reporting related tasks in compliance with GAAP and Sarbanes/Oxley requirements. This includes providing reports, schedules, memos and explanations supporting each OpCo’s financial statements. - Stay current with GAAP, FERC and state regulatory issues affecting fuel and provide input for needed accounting functionality changes. - Perform the periodic publishing of various fuel related regulatory reports and data requests mandated by FERC, EIA, State PSC’s an...
