Job description

Position Overview The Med/Surg Observation Registered Nurse provides high‑quality, patient‑centered care in a fast‑paced environment focused on short‑stay evaluation and acute medical needs. The RN independently assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients, serving as a primary or accountable nurse based on unit needs and patient acuity. This role includes educating patients and families, safely administering medications in accordance with United Health Services policy, and supporting efficient use of staffing, time, and resources to ensure excellent clinical and operational outcomes. The RN upholds all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies while actively participating in shared governance, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice initiatives. The Observation RN engages in ongoing professional development, supports new staff and students through a positive learning environment, and contributes to a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement on the night shift.
