Traffic Scotland is a service provided by Transport Scotland and aims to make journeys on the Scottish Trunk Road Network as safe and as smooth as possible. The Scottish Trunk Road Network covers over 3,500km of motorways and trunk roads and connects Scotland's major cities, towns, airports and ports, enabling the movement of people, goods and services. It carries 35% of all traffic and 60% of heavy goods vehicles. Traffic Scotland constantly collects, stores and processes a wide range of data relating to the use of our network to provide information to road users and to evaluate and make decisions on the operation of the network. This data is used for a huge variety of purposes, including reducing disruption caused by congestion, events and adverse weather as well as supporting investment in road maintenance, improvement and the transition to net-zero.
