Job Summary To provide comprehensive genetic counseling services to individuals and families seeking information about genetic conditions and to provide risk assessment. The genetic counselor practices as a part of a genetic service team, communicating genetic, medical and technical information with the knowledge and insight into the psychosocial and cultural experiences important to each patient and family. Essential Functions: - Provides genetic counseling services, evaluates patient and family health educational needs, initiates appropriate genetic risk assessment and plan appropriate screening tests. - Assess the needs of patients, significant others and family members. Obtains insurance pre-authorization, drafts letters of medical necessity and processes billing. - Facilitate appropriate medical and psychosocial follow-up for high-risk patients and their families.
