GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the general guidance of the medical director, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written guidelines approved by the department. The APP provides direct patient care services for complex critically ill Cardiac and Heart Failure patients, in the CCU in collaboration with and under the supervision of the cardiologist(s) and the Medical Director(s) of the CCU. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care and discharge of patients, and provides direct patient care services. The CCU APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
