Job description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Procedure - Designs and assembles extracorporeal circuits and equipment for cardiopulmonary bypass, left heart bypass, VAD, ECMO, HIPEC, veno-venous bypass, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and autologous blood recovery equipment. Maintains patient parameters per guidelines and as ordered by the physicians during CPB, MCS and autologous blood recovery procedures. Administers medications, anesthetic agents and blood products under the orders and supervision of a physician. Performs chemistry, blood gas, co-oximetry, and activated clotting time tests. Review all patient data prior to intervention to determine appropriate circuitry and equipment applications; collaborates with attending surgeon on the selection of circuit components and special patient requirements. Effectively communicates with cardiac surgeon, anesthesiologist, other perfusionists, and operating room personnel. Provides age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years and adult patients with congenital heart disease or MCS.
