MAJOR FUNCTION: The clinical nurse educator assesses, promotes and contributes to the quality of nursing care administered to patients and their support systems throughout the health care continuum. Specialization in nursing practice includes in-depth study of relevant theories and scientific knowledge related to various patient populations, which promotes the ability to analyze and refine nursing practice and generate increase nursing knowledge. The Clinical Nurse Educator must have the ability to use the nursing process sequential steps of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation in formulating the plan of care, and have the ability to supervise and educate others. The Clinical Nurse Educator performs the roles of expert clinician, educator and researcher based on focal clinical priorities and are responsible for designing, delivering and evaluating outcomes leader to continuous improvement. The clinical nurse educator must have excellent verbal and written communication, advanced critical thinking skills and have the ability to collaborate with medical providers and interdisciplinary teams to ensure evidence-based nursing practice models are promoted.
