Staff Accountant

Job description

Description The Staff Accountant position will be responsible for supporting the accounting activities of Georgia Power. The position will primarily have responsibility for the monthly closing of the Company’s financial records and timely and accurate preparation of documents to support internal and external reporting objectives, including SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K and FERC Forms 1 and 3-Q. This position will report to Georgia Power’s Accounting Team Lead and will work closely with adjacent Financial Reporting and other support groups within Georgia Power and the Southern Company system, as well as with internal and external auditors. Major Job Responsibilities: - Perform month-end close activities, including accurate preparation, upload, and posting of journals to ensure timely month end closing and integrity of financials - Accounting for cash management transactions, including bank reconciliations and related journals, as well as researching and resolving discrepancies within cash accounts - Preparation and review of month-end accruals and other responsibilities as assigned - Complete account reconciliations by scheduled due date and ensure adequate supporting documentation is att...
