Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Director of Artificial Intelligence & Automation in Richmond, Virginia. The Director of AI is responsible for building artificial intelligence in-house. In this role, the Director of Artificial Intelligence serves as the primary technical point of contact for AI initiatives with Caterpillar, Inc, promote the adoption of AI/RPA tools, and develop internal applications using AI tools Seeking candidates with an MBA or equivalent business experience combined with a deep technical/developer background; Hands-on proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern AI/ML frameworks (OpenAI API, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Claude Code, LangChain, etc.); Proven track record of building data-driven tools that solved tangible business problems; Superior communication skills: able to explain the "Why" of AI to an executive and the "How" to a developer.
