Job description

Overview The Vehicle Safety Officer independently audits inspection stations, dealers, and recyclers for compliance with legislated and regulatory requirements. The Vehicle Safety Officer inspects vehicles to determine the quality of inspections performed by permit holders, identifies any issues, and gathers information to prepare a report for the supervisor that outlines any sanctions and recommendations. The Vehicle Safety Officer responds to customer and consumer complaints of misconduct and substandard performance and investigates permit holders to gather any information required to move forward with sanctions and/or hearings. Other responsibilities include assisting in dispute arbitration between dealers and consumers, confirming the eligibility of individuals and businesses for permit applications, interpreting and providing guidance and training regarding vehicle equipment requirements and standards, and assisting enforcement agencies in selective traffic enforcement programs and investigations of illegal activities.
