Job description

Performs or supervises staff performing microbiological, molecular, biochemical, and serological testing and other services for the detection, diagnosis, treatment and control of diseases and environmental health hazards in a public health laboratory. Management Scope: Supervises exempt and non-exempt employees. 1. Performs and supervises complex technical procedures for the detection, isolation and identification of infectious agents, including emerging pathogens and agents that could be used in a biological terrorist event. 2. Performs and supervises the screening and supplemental testing on blood specimens for detection of sexually transmitted diseases, lead and other highly infectious agents, using molecular microbiology techniques (PCR). 3. Validates and interprets laboratory test data; keeps records and prepares routine reports; orders supplies for laboratory; and maintains time and attendance. 4. Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures; complies with safety rules and regulations while working in the laboratory. 5.
