Job Description Required Certificates and Licenses: School Social Worker Certificate Preliminary School Social Worker Certificate (PSSWC) Professional School Social Worker Certificate (PSWC) School Social Worker Permit (SSWP): Residency Requirements: Reside in Michigan or surrounding states (Ohio or Indiana). Applicants located out of state must have a Michigan School Social Worker certification to be considered. The School Social Worker is responsible for helping families in situations of crisis, abuse and neglect, in addition to supporting other areas of social-emotional need affecting student academic achievement. The position responds to issues directly, by facilitating meetings and/or by coordinating services with outside parties such as Child Protective Services, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and other community-based organizations.
