Responsibilities The Surgical Technologist facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team. Qualifications: MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED required; relevant experience in lieu of High School Diploma/GED education will be considered. Completion of an accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist. MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE: Previous experience preferred: REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Must be certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), NCCT is acceptable or meet the grandfather clause. Grandfather Clause: The bill includes an extensive grandfather clause exempting all individuals employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before Sept. 1, 2009. The clarification notes that legislation does not state employed on Sept. 1, 2009, but rather “before that date.
