Location: IV/Transfusion Service (FR2T, EI 8) Patient Care Type: The IV Transfusion Service, a blood administration and vascular access team consisting of RNs and IV technicians, provides coverage 24 hours per day in the hospital inpatient settings at RMC and SMC, as well as many outpatient areas. The IV Transfusion Service cares for patients of all ages. Nursing Team Roles: The IV Transfusion Service performs the placement of routine and emergency peripheral IV’s for patients of all ages. The IV Transfusion Service nurses perform routine and emergency blood transfusions, patient assessment for adverse transfusion reaction, intracatheter instillation of medication for restoration of central venous catheter patency, access and deaccess implanted vascular access devices, insertion of peripheral and central (PICC) intravenous catheters, perform routine and as needed PICC site cares, insertion of Midline intravenous catheters, perform routine and as needed Midline site cares and therapeutic phlebotomies.
