Job description

General Summary: Operates and maintains equipment used for road construction and maintenance; and assists in the construction and repair of county roads, culverts, ditches, and bridges. Essential Duties: Other duties may be assigned. Operates equipment at Road and Bridge including, but not limited to, motor grader, backhoe, rubber tire loader, steel roller, tractor and shredder, bulldozer and water truck. Maintains equipment, including checking oil, water, fuel tires and hydraulic system, and making appropriate adjustments; Patches, tamps, packs, and levels hot mix, dirt or other materials during road repair; Smooths road surfaces; Clears ditches and culverts; Installs and repairs culverts; Performs work with hand tools, including digging trenches, cutting down trees and brush, and removing driftwood and debris from culverts and right of way; Loads heavy equipment, standard hand tools, and road maintenance materials onto haul truck; Drives truck to haul material to and from work site; Surveys roads for potential hazards and secures appropriate hazardous warning signs; and May dispose of animal carcasses.
