Job Description: Reporter, Private Equity The Wall Street Journal is seeking a reporter to cover the private-equity industry and other Wall Street news in New York. This reporter will get to know some of the biggest firms on Wall Street and the personalities behind them, chronicling their deals, their major role in the economy and the massive shifts in their business. Private-equity firms had already been struggling to unload investments. Now, the software companies they acquired in a wave of buyouts are threatened by the rise of artificial intelligence, exacerbating the challenge. The successful candidate will be as comfortable digging through data and filings as working a source over the phone to nail a deal or personnel scoop. The reporter should be able to critically examine the industry and help readers understand the myriad ways private equity impacts Wall Street and Main Street alike. Following through on what private-equity firms do with the firms they take private, from restaurant chains to plumbing companies, is also part of the assignment.
