A Mental Health Counselor must also complete paperwork related to these functions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions are duties, which are essential or primary to the position or the reason the position exists. An individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Conducts diagnostic assessments and determines client appropriateness for service. Gathers information on individuals and identifies client’s strengths, weaknesses, needs and problems to formulate appropriate treatment plan. Conducts intensive individual counseling sessions with clients on a one-to-one basis; ensures flow of client’s case during treatment pertaining to area of expertise.
