Overview JOB SUMMARY: The role of a registered diagnostic medical sonographer involves independently performing standard and complex ultrasound examinations and assisting physicians in the course of ultrasound-guided interventional procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: See License requirement: Experience: Experience with General, OBGYN, abdominal, small parts and vascular ultrasounds. Breast and neonatal ultrasound experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills: The sonographer must understand anatomy and basic pathology associated with exams being performed. License/Certifications: An individual who holds and maintains (via continuing education credits) current certification from the ARDMS, and has a current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS/CPR card. Equipment: The sonographer should be knowledgeable of the ultrasound equipment and ancillary accessories needed to perform basic and special procedures. Personal computer, RIS, HIS, and PACS. Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements of the job.
