Job Details The Phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining patients’ blood specimens through venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick as appropriate for the performance of requested tests. The Phlebotomist uses appropriate equipment and complies with phlebotomy policies and procedures, including proper techniques, patient identification, biohazard precautions, and timing and fasting requirements. Job Description: Essential Functions: Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Performs phlebotomy and ensures accurate collection of requested tests from patient through venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick. Maintains positive patient identification during specimen collection. Communicates to nursing personnel or physician office relative or discrepant patient identification, fasting requirements or other related factors regarding collection. Communicates to Nursing when in house patients refuse blood draws. Will use Hospital resources when language barriers exist. Reviews all requisitions for missing information.
