Job description

Teaser Text The Institute of Environmental Sciences CML and Faculty of Science is looking for: PhD position in chemical complexity of textile production We are looking for a PhD candidate who will work to document and map the flows and environmental impact potential of chemicals used throughout the life cycle of textiles. What you will do: Chemicals are vital to the modern production of textiles used in the preparation of fibers, spinning of yarns, production of fabrics, confection of garments, shipping and transportation, and laundering/care of textiles. Yet the flow of these chemicals and their potential points of accumulation throughout the product's lifecycle are rarely considered in material flow analysis (MFA) or life cycle assessments (LCA) of textiles. This data is critical for assessing the environmental impacts of textiles throughout their lifetime as well as hot spotting potential accumulation points for exposure and identifying key chemicals for safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) initiatives throughout the textile value chain. This PhD will begin to address these knowledge and data gaps by developing an overview of the stocks and flows of chemicals used throughout th...
