Research in the Cereda Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital focuses on understanding the mechanisms of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and creating innovative strategies of individualized life support. Caused by inflammatory lung injury, ARDS is associated with the loss of ventilated airspaces, low blood oxygen, and high mortality. Dysregulation and misdistribution of lung perfusion play an important role in determining both the clinical trajectory of ARDS and its response to treatment.
