Description The Department of Anthropology in the School of the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for an open-rank, full-time, tenure-track position August 1, 2023. Applicants should have a PhD in anthropology. Depending on experience and qualification, the appointee to this position may be recommended for tenure at the time of hiring. We are seeking an archaeologist or bioarchaeologist with a four-field orientation. Historical Archaeology of the Americas is preferred, but we are open to all areas of geographical and temporal specialization. Candidates should be able to present a record of highly regarded scholarship in the form of peer-reviewed publications and external funding that aligns with department priorities. Candidates should also present a record of effective teaching. Ideal applicants also have a record of public-facing work that factors into their teaching agenda. Candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in archaeology focusing on method, theory and sites where their research is based.
