Financial Counselor - RCO Financial Clearance - ( 2601534 ) Description EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Minimum Qualifications: - One year of related experience. JOB SUMMARY: To provide the skills necessary to interview patients for demographic, financial, and third-party payor information to determine their ability to pay for services. MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS: - Gathers all patient demographic data required in the Hospital Information System computer system during patient interview. - Screens patient for financial responsibility by using the uniform financial screening document. - Verifies patient information by obtaining copies of proofs of residency, income, and third-party carriers. - Determines potential reimbursement sources available to the patient and directs them to these sources. - Determines the proper pay classification of the patient. - Calculates patient's charges for office visit and collects payment. - Counsels with patients about unpaid bills. - Researches invalid charge slips and creates appropriate account for billing. - Creates a patient folder for appropriate paperwork. - Adheres to internal controls established for department. - Performs related duties as requir...
