Responds to all reports of death, determines jurisdiction, and responds to death scenes. Conducts independent and thorough investigation into circumstances of death, including medical history, and facilitates identification of bodies. Questions witnesses, relatives and other persons to obtain pertinent information regarding decedent. Responds to inquiries from law enforcement throughout the course of the investigation. Provides guidance to and serves as the primary point of contact for decedents’ next of kin. Assesses deceased bodies and disturbing scenes of death that may involve hazardous environments, biologically contaminated or otherwise objectionable structures, and/or under extreme weather conditions.
